AND THE DVF AWARD GOES TO….

FASHION  |  By Liza Gates  |  March 16th, 2010

New York – Saturday marked the DVF awards, launched by designer Diane von Furstenberg. The event honored “four women who are making a difference in the lives of thousands of other women: Sadiqa Basiri Saleem of the Oruj Learning Center in Afghanistan; Danielle Saint-lot of Femmes en Democratie in Haiti; Katherine Chon of Polaris Project U.S., and Ingrid Betancourt, the French-Columbian politician who was held in captivity for six and a half years in the Columbian jungle.” Held in New York City, the DVF awards was supported by the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation and Tina Brown, founder of Thedailybeast.com. According to von Furstenberg, whose husband, Berry Dillar, was credited for the support he has given to the style icon’s career, the event turned an otherwise nondescript UN space “into a nightclub.” [WWD]

WATCH OUT BEYONCE AND LADY GAGA, THERE’S A NEW DIVA IN THE GAME

FASHION  |  By Kristina Bustos  |  March 4th, 2010

And this one has a very famous initial.

World Wide Web – DVF. That’s right, it’s none other than Ms. Diane Von Furstenberg. The legendary designer will be offering her creativity in another form and in another industry as it has been reported that Von Furstenberg will release an album. But the designer isn’t exactly going to be showing off her singing chops — whether she has them or not — instead she will compile an album that features songs by her favorite female artists to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, which also is the release date of the album. Artists for the album, titled “Proud to be a Woman,” include Estelle, Annie Lennox, Joss Stone and Santigold, showing that Ms. DVF has quite the musical taste. If you can’t wait til March 8, the album is already available on iTunes. Proceeds of the sales will go to Vital Voices, a charity championing women’s rights worldwide. Yeah, is there anything that DVF can’t do? [My Fashion Life]

WHO HAD SALES INQUIRIES BOOST AFTER NY FASHION WEEK?

FASHION  |  By Kristina Bustos  |  February 26th, 2010

The Wall Street Journal lists the top five brands who received high percentage of sale inquiries after showing at New York Fashion Week.

U.S.A. - Fashion Week in New York ended and we’re still talking about it. (But we wouldn’t have it any other way anyhow.) The Wall Street Journal has listed the top five brands who saw sales inquiries boosts a week after showing in New York and Diane Von Furstenberg (pictured at her Fall/Winter 2010 show)  takes the top spot with 1150% increase in sales inquiries. DVF then is followed by Donna Karan with 700% increase. A sales and marketing database called NetProspex tracked down the impact of NYFW on brand awareness and sales. The database concluded that not only does NYFW generate buzz but that buzz also translates to actual sales. Rounding up the list in order are: BCBG Max Azria with 425% increase, Tory Burch with 260% increase and Thakoon with 200% increase. The list is interesting and sort of what not we expected, for example Thakoon making it to the top five but it does make sense to see an increase of sales inquiries for the brand. After all, Thakoon is a favorite of one of the most visible woman in the world, First Lady Michelle Obama. [WSJ]

DVF SAYS GOODBYE TO ONE CREATIVE DIRECTOR, SAYS HELLO TO ANOTHER

FASHION  |  By Kristina Bustos  |  February 5th, 2010

Nathan Jenden ends his time as the creative director at Diane Von Furstenberg to start on his own collection, will be replaced by Yvan Mispelaere.

DVFWorld Wide Web – Diane Von Furstenberg’s creative director Nathan Jenden has decided to leave the company, and on this Valentine’s Day Diane Von Furstenberg and Jenden will take their last bow together at New York Fashion Week. Jenden, who has worked at DVF since 2001, launched his eponymous collection in 2006 and he will be leaving DVF to put all his focus on his own line. In his replacement is Yvan Mispelaer, who has worked with designer Phoebe Philo at Chloe and joined Gucci in 2006. While it may be a sad show to watch Von Furstenberg and Jenden take their last bow together this weekend, Von Furstenberg insists it will be a show to celebrate their collaboration. “This show is really a celebration of Nathan and I, and of our collaboration,” Von Furstenberg said. “It’s sad because we are going apart, even though we are staying close, and exciting because he is going to do his thing and focus on it.” [UK Vogue, Fashionologie]
