FASHION’S NIGHT OUT SHOW WAS MAJOR…REALLY MAJOR!

FASHION, Fashion Week  |  By Jared Lowe  |  September 8th, 2010

In the words of the great Rachel Zoe, we “died” a few times during the show.

Lincoln Center, New York - No words could estimate how colossal ‘Fashion’s Night Out: The Show’ was. Not only was this the biggest fashion show known to mankind with over 175 models strutting and a webcast on CBS, but it actually showed in season garments. Only the team at Vogue could triumphantly put together such a coordinated and [scheduled] show. Naomi and Gisele sashayed. Pharrell Williams and N.E.R.D rocked out and we finally got to see Chanel’s Turkish take on Nordic wear in the flesh. Check out some of our favorite photos of the biggest fashion show in history!

Natalie Thompson saw a void in the fashion industry and she sought to fill that void. Blaynistas, feast your eyes on LAUDEME.

LAUDEME sets the stage for the compliments to flow as the wearer conveys magnetism and charm. Natalie Thompson deserves a handclap for creating a brand who’s goal was to pay homage to presentations past by being a clean and admirable ode. EXCLUSIVES, FASHION, Fashion Week, INTERVIEWS, T.B.R VIDEOS, Uncategorized  |  By Zandile Blay  |  September 8th, 2010

The Style Expert and Television host chats with TBR during the launch of his latest book.

New YorkLoyd Boston has always been – at least in my head – a friend and a mentor. Since my first job at Seventeen Magazine (when I used to crash shows with my lovely companion, Julee) Boston would always stop and smile and offer some amazing words of wisdom.  Now an entire nation of women can benefit from his advice with his latest book: “The Style Checklist.” What’s it about? Boston answers that question himself in the video above, where we took a few minutes to chit chat in between his turn squiring besties Veronica Webb, Soledad O’Brien and his mother along. J’Die.  Continue reading…

BETSEY JOHNSON OWES STEVE MADDEN HELLA COINS!

FASHION  |  By Channing Hargrove  |  September 7th, 2010

Betsey Johnson defaulted on a loan to Steve Madden Ltd. and if she doesn’t come up with the money by August 20, 2012, Steve Madden could own the company.

World Wide Web- Here’s the deets: Betsey Johnson owes money to Steve Madden and defaulted on her loan. So unless Johnson can come up with $48.8 million dollars to cover the loan that she took out by August 20, 2012, Steve Madden could get the brand. The loan includes Betsey’s intellectual property so Madden really could be hitting the jackpot with this one. [The Cut]

BECAUSE FASHION WEEK IS HELL….HERE’S A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN

FASHION, Fashion Week  |  By Zandile Blay  |  September 7th, 2010

The good folks at BPCM in New York City, created this nifty Fashion Week First Aid Kit. We’re in instant love.

New York – It’s not rocket science: Look at clothes: write about it. Go to a party: write about it. Meet a celeb: write about it. And if you can do it all while wearing particularly high heels – then you are exceptionally good at your job. But the cycle of look, write, repeat can be more draining than one can imagine. (Putting together my schedule alone – a six hour ordeal – already has me winded.) What’s a good Editor to do? “Keep Calm and Carry On.”  At least those were the orders from our friends at BPCM, who sent this precious Fashion Week survival kit our way. What’s in it?

ANOTHER ORIGINAL IDEA FROM ADIDAS

FASHION, Fashion Market, Uncategorized  |  By Zandile Blay  |  September 7th, 2010

The unique capsule collection, debuts a watch line. About time.

New York – Athletic apparel and me never mix. (Unless two piece bikini’s count as such.) But one brand I continue to make an exception for is Adidas, where design has always been as much about function as it is about form. (See my Y-3 wedges, or my Jeremy Scott for Adidas sweats or my advert for them in the 25th anniversary issue of Paper.) They are continuing in that spirit with their latest debut: Adidas Originals time pieces, which are scheduled to launch this Fall at Adidas Originals boutiques worldwide.  These beauties will run you ’round $65 a pop. See more pics after the jump.  Continue reading…

SIMON DOONAN LEAVES THE NEW YORK OBSERVER FOR SLATE

FASHION  |  By Channing Hargrove  |  September 3rd, 2010

Doonan was the star of The Observer and now the paper is searching for someone new to step up.

World Wide Web- Could it be more than a coincidence that Simon Doonan is leaving the New York Observer right after Alexandra Jacobs left? Doonan, after writing a column for the paper for 10 years, will take his talents to Slate. Obviously Doonan will be missed and Observer editor-in-chief Kyle Pope is looking for the next star. “Simon has been the star of the Observer for 10 years, and he’ll be missed,” said Pope. “But, as he said, it’s time for someone new to step up. We’re searching now for who that someone will be.” Any ideas Blaynistas? [Fashionologie]

SO LADY GAGA IS NEW YORK’S GIFT TO POP CULTURE AND FASHION, V MAGAZINE?

EXCLUSIVES, FASHION  |  By Channing Hargrove  |  September 3rd, 2010

The New York Issue of V Magazine is on stands now, and its cover models couldn’t be more New York if they tried.

World Wide Web- The first of four V67 covers to be released was created by Dan Colen where he interpreted the iconic “V” as chewed up wads of bubble gum. You know, like, the stuff you see all over the streets of New York. Colen posed Lady Gaga and designer Marc Jacobs for the cover shoot. Editor Stephen Gan thought Gaga was the perfect choice for the cover. “Just as the statue of Liberty was France’s gift to America, Gaga is, to us, New York’s greatest gift to pop culture and fashion,” said Gan. “Exactly one year after her first V cover, we decided to do the NEW YORK issue, and she was the first person who came to mind to represent our great city.” Does Gaga represent that empire state of mind to you too Blaynistas? We have more images from the glossy after the cut.
