CFDA IS HARD AT WORK TO FIGHT COUNTERFEIT AND COPYING IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY

Diane von Furstenberg makes it known that she would like to use her position as president of the CFDA to pass a law to protect designers against counterfeits and copying. Her wish could soon be coming to pass.

World Wide Web- The Council of Fashion Designers of America have had enough when it comes to knockoffs. Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA’s president would like to take action against with a law against counterfeits and copying.  Last week, a new bill was introduced that is supported by the CFDA and the American Apparel & Footwear Association.

If passed, the bill would provide protection to the most original design. If a designer feels his work has been copied, they must prove their design has “a unique, distinguishable, non-trivial and non-utilitarian variation over prior designs.” The bill would protect fashion designs like handbags, belts, and sunglasses for the 3 years after the item is first seen in public. The bill will be passed this fall. How do you feel about this Blaynistas? Is this a win for the fashion industry? [Fashionologie]

Yes! But three years is not very long. Protection should be similar like patents for drugs/pharmaceuticals which can last for up to 12 years or longer, but guess fashion industry styles can be short-lived with each season as well as designers.
