W Magazine’s new Editor-in-Chief is not shying away from making big changes. Case in point: Countess Louise J. Esterhazy was given the cease and desist on her column.
World Wide Web – To those who are fans of Countess Louise J. Esterhazy‘s column on the demise of the high society located on the back page of W, you might want to savor the last issues before Mr. Stefano Tonchi takes over in August! W‘s new editor-in-chief, Stefano Tonchi, is really serious about taking the magazine from high fashion to a lifestyle glossy. We told you how he chose to go to a different route and not put uber-celebs on his first cover. That’s not all, Tonchi has also decided to do away with Countess Louise J. Esterhazy’s column (real name: John Fairchild). 83-year-old John Fairchild, whose father created the fashion bible that is Women’s Wear Daily and other trade journal, was a publisher until he stepped down when he was 70. He, however, still wrote his infamous column in W, where he takes no mercy even if you are an Oscar winner. In 2004 he wrote “to me [Nicole Kidman] looks like an overdressed kangaroo.” Ouch. Well, actually now we’re curious what made him say that! Was it her Golden Globe dress that year, Countess? If so we will agree that it wasn’t Nicole’s best look that year. But alas, if definitely does seem to be the end of an era for W magazine, Blaynistas. [Page Six]
