GET ON THIS: THE LOWEFACTOR

By Kristina Bustos  |  February 8th, 2010

Our very own Fashion Entertainment Editor launches his new blog called lowefactor and we have an exclusive interview with our one and only Jared Michael Lowe.

World Wide WebJared Michael Lowe has two passions: film and fashion. And here on The Blay Report Lowe gets to display his love for both as our fashion entertainment editor. “Film was and is my first love,” says 22-years-old Lowe, who has a major in Public Relations. “I was the proverbial theater kid and studied acting and directing for five years. Fashion is second. When I was little, I used to collect my mom’s Vogues and stuff them under my bed until bedtime when I would skim through editorials shot by Mario Testino and Steven Miesel featuring Naomi, Christy, Cindy and Linda.”

Lowe then adds he wanted to be part of that world, and as our fashion entertainment editor  and with the recent launch of his own fashion blog called lowefactor, he is definitely making that happen. Lowe, who has written for Addicted 2 Glamour and Cash & Caviar, says he wanted to develop a blog that would allow him to share his interests in fashion and beauty to a wide audience. lowefactor began as “a hope, a dream and a prayer” for Lowe, and with the help of graphic designer King Shahka and his beauty and lifestyle writer Serena Sams, Lowe’s hope, dream and prayer were answered after two years in the making. Check out for our exclusive interview with Mr. Lowe, himself, after the jump.

What does “lowefactor” mean to you?

lowefactor is who I am. I wanted to show a different identity or “factor” to consider. This is not just a glimpse into the fashion, entertainment or art world but a showcase of my world to everyone. That’s evident in the name.

And what can the readers expect when checking out your blog?

I want our readers to be entertained. I want those who are at work from nine to five or in school to take a gander at the site a few times a day and get their life at our images, videos, storie and exposés. Our motto is: Fashion invigorates us. Design inspires us. Culture intrigues us.

There are so many fashion and beauty blogs right now but how is lowefactor different from those blogs?

The blog I think is quite unique because it is offering what you won’t see in a lot of fashion and lifestyle blogs. It’s very contemporary looking in the layout and that was my intent. And we are talking with people about things not at them, which I think a lot of blogs do. It’s more conversational.

As our Fashion Entertainment Editor here at The Blay Report, we like to know who are your favorite designers at the moment?

This is tricky. Each designer brings something completely different to the forefront. All-time favorites include Marc Jacobs (he has transcended the fashion industry in my opinion), Nicolas Ghesquiere, Rodarte (their Target capsule collection was sheer genius), Alexander Wang (he’s bringing the fun back in fashion), Calvin Klein, Phillip Lim, and Jeremy Scott.

Do you have any must-have clothing item or accessories?

Bags! I am a bag fiend. My friends can attest. It’s a serious illness and I will spend my last coin on a Marc Jacobs. Also decent boots, which McQueen makes the best!

People love trends but if there is one style trend people shouldn’t follow what would that be for you?

I don’t understand why people are still wearing crocs right now with the exception if you work in the medical field. I get there comfortable, but that’s what flats can do and at least you can have fun with them and they’re stylish.

Lastly since you cover what celebrities wear on the red carpet for our “Red Carpet Moments” section, if you could style one celebrity at this year’s Oscars who would it be and what would you have him or her wear?

The Oscars is the Superbowl for the film industry and the public gets a kick out of who or what their favorite celebrities will wear to the event. I love Kate Hudson. She is a phenomenal actress and a fabulous style star. She exudes confidence. It would be a dream to dress her. But in what? She has worn practically everything. Thinking, I really enjoyed Armani Prive’s Spring Couture collection, so perhaps in a look from that. Kate and Armani are a match made in heaven. Both are sleek and confident. Armani dresses for the confident beauty and Kate Hudson is that.

  1. [...] The Blay Report (which is #IMO one the best trade fashion blogs out there!) gave the #factor love yesterday in an interview as well as our fam over at Cash & Caviar a week back. I thank them and all you reading and tuning into the #factor. Like Hov said: “You could have been anywhere in the world tonight, but your hear with me”, and it makes us #sohappyWEcouldDIE [...]
